The chat and search capabilities that can expose your child to the possibility of bullying, sexting, meeting strangers, and adult content. The terms and conditions state that users must be 18 or older and it has an iTunes App Store rating of 17+ but younger children are still able to register. There are many issues with this app. Most importantly, anyone has access to your child’s streams and saved videos and there is no option for a private profile. Users have to reach “Level 2” to send direct messages but all they have to do to reach this level is watch more live videos and start their own broadcast. A simple search reveals many users who are offering to share pornographic content and encourage their followers to "see more" on other apps such as Kik and Snapchat. For these reasons, Live.me should not be used by any child under 18.
It may be difficult for your child to understand why they are not allowed to have Live.me because it is so popular among tweens and teens. Try talking to your child about why they want this app. If your child enjoys live video chat with friends and family, there are plenty of safer, more private options such as Skype and Facetime that they can use under parent supervision. If your child wants to use this app to meet strangers, talk to him/her about why this is a safety risk. If your child has been using this app frequently, ask to see his/her activity. Based on their followers and the nature of the conversations they are having, you may want to involve law enforcement to protect your child.
